As reported on Fox Baltimore, ABC has canceled its hit reboot of “Roseanne” following her racist tweet about former Obama adviser Valerie Jerrett.
The ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey says the comment “is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel the show”
Barr’s tweet suggested that Jerrett is a product of the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes”
She later apologized for making a bad joke, saying in a tweet “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me, my joke was in poor taste.”
The “Roseanne” reboot was the number #1 show on TV for the 2017 – 2018 season on ABC
Wanda Sykes quit “Roseanne” before ABC canceled the show as reported by CNN. Wanda Sykes, who was a consulting producer on the show made a decision to not return for the shows second season, after Roseanne’s racist twitter rants.
“I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC,” Sykes wrote in a tweet.
When describing her work on “Roseanne, Sykes said she typically helped the shows full-time writers “punch up stories and jokes” twice a week, a job she took on because she was a fan of the show.
It was only a matter of time before the show was gonna strike a nerve with non-trump supporters. Even the President himself endorsed the show after it aired back in March. It was probably the only piece of entertainment that didn’t bash Trump.
The show itself turned off some viewers due to its racy remarks on the show.
Also in light of the cancelation of “Roseanne” reboot. Reruns of the show were pulled from Paramount Network, TV Land, CMT, and Laff according to The Wrap.
Amazon owns the streaming rights to “Roseanne”. Representatives for that platform did not comment on how they will handle the old episodes.
This isn’t the first time Barr has made racist comments on Twitter, so it was only a matter of time before it affected her career.
Barr has deleted and deactivated her Twitter account.
